Dear Families,
Our missed Friday due to the black out has changed our schedule a little this week. We will make up our vocabulary and spelling test this Tuesday. There will not be a math quiz until this Friday. Because quizzes and tests were not taken, SMART folders will be sent home during Parent Teacher Conference Week next week. I will send home a confirmed conference schedule on Tuesday. Below are some of the reminders for the week:
September 15–Science Test Rocks/Minerals. Study Guide completed in class on Monday. Notes and Book may be used.
September 16–Book Reports Due–Poster and Summary
Have a great week,
Marie Mezan
Dear Families,
I am so happy to be back and working with your child! I can already tell this is going to be an amazing group of students. I hope your child has shared with you the first week of school. We spent much of the week reviewing the classroom standards and fourth grade expectations. We also completed several district assessments. Your child will be placed in math groups by Wednesday. This may mean that students will have math instruction with one of the other fourth grade teachers. I also shared with students some of the events we have planned for them such as California Gold Rush Days, field trips and the Ipad pilot for fourth graders at LCH. I’ll be sharing more about this at Back-to School Night on Thursday.
Thank you for having your child’s supplies ready and the parent questionnaires returned. We have organized your child’s binder so that he/she can be responsible for homework and class assignments. Homework will be assigned daily and entered in the weekly agenda. It will not be posted on my website because we want students to learn how to utilize an organized agenda. I will post long term projects on my website. The first project is the summary/poster book report due September 16. Many of you have you signed indicating you are aware of this project but I still need a few returned. Reminders of big events and projects will be sent via group email. I look forward to meeting with you all at Back-to-School Night. Keep in mind this is an information meeting and I will not be sharing out your child’s progress until our September goal setting conferences. Feel free to email me if you have any questions prior to Thursday’s Back-to-School Night.
Regards,
Marie Mezan
Dear Families,
Welcome back! I’m so excited to be working with you and your child this year. I have been teaching at EUSD for over 25 years after graduating from UC Santa Barbara. My own schooling was a combination of public and private schools. I claim it’s my private school experience that made me a dedicated public school teacher. This is my third year at La Costa Heights and I feel very fortunate to be here.
I have just returned from climbing in Colorado and hiking in Park City. I have lived in Encinitas for many years and my children have attended and thrived in EUSD schools. Please know that your child will be so prepared after being educated in this district. My daughter is a sophomore at UC Santa Cruz and my son is a junior at San Dieguito Academy. We are a family that loves food, the beach, skiing and snowboarding.
The fourth grade teachers (Schulz, Chapman and Mezan) have been busy preparing to ensure that your child has a rewarding experience. Personally, I feel I’m working with a “dream team” of passionate and talented teachers. Teaming is important to us and we work hard to take responsibility for the education of all fourth grade students. I will be sharing more with you at Back to School Night on August 25.
Look at the sidebar under “pages” to find a recommended list of student supplies and a wish list for the classroom. My big wish is that you all had a restful summer and you are ready to be back in school. I will be sending out a parent letter and questionnaire the first week of school. Please return all paperwork the first week, as this helps me with planning. The doors will be open early so that I can meet you. Please come by and introduce yourselves!
Regards,
Marie Mezan (marie.mezan@eusd.net)
